Stanislav Grof talks about holotropic states of (non-ordinary) conscousness, their healing power, and revelation of the divine core of each individual., healing as becoming whole, holotropic breathwork the technique developed following the banning of LSD, Grof’s original career plan in animated movies, Albert Hoffman’s discovery of LSD, Grof’s own experiences of unity consciousness with LSD, spiritual emergencies, the spontaneous self-healing of the human-organism, the insufficiency of modern psychology in accounting for non-ordinary states of consciousness, the need to include perinatal experiences in the cartography of the human psyche, the powerful effect of the birth experience on the life of the individual, Grof’s conception of the 4 perinatal matrices and their relation to good and bad trips, types of experience such as becoming plants and animals, becoming enemies, past-life regression, seeing demonic entities, the vioence and greed of human history, the crisis in the evolution of consciousness, the inefficacy of military solutions to Western problems, the need for profound inner transformation, birth trauma as an explanation for horrific acts such as war crimes, astrology as a tool for predicting psychedelic sessions, the artwork of HR Giger, jung on synchronicity and hardwired archetypes, Buddhist conceptions of liberation, the fundamental ignorance of separate self and psychedelics as a tool to restore transcendental wisdom.
