In this week’s installment of Psychonautica, Max Freakout plays the fifth part of a day-long seminar by Stanislav Grof, from the world psychedelic forum, entitled ‘psychospiritual death and rebirth, a visionary journey’. Grof talks about the meaning of spiders, pythons and octopuses in psychedelic visions, the experience of oceanic bliss and being sucked into a vortex, being guilt-tripped by parents and various manifestations of guilt including that of Adam and Eve, themes from H.R Giger’s art including war, death, demons and blasphemy, bio-mechanics and the mechanical nature of childbirth, use of datura, belladonna, henbane and deadly nightshade in witchcraft, satanic rituals, Plato’s realm of transcendental forms, archetypal themes of heaven and hell, the aftermath of Hiroshima, the Goddess Kali and ego death, an alternative explanation of Freud’s castration complex, perinatal themes in blockbuster movies such as Dune, Indiana Jones and Star Wars, and the theme of coronation and the child-king. Afterwards, Max plays a recording of an Amanita Muscaria trip-report involving a narrow escape from death.
